explorer/PCvRIZLXS：Dragon-boat race is the main custom of Dragon-boat Festival.According to legend, it originates from the story that people in ancient state of Chu were reluctant to see Qu Yuan to drown himself in the river. Many people raced their boat against each other to save, but no trace of him was to be found at the Dongting Lake. Then people row dragon-boat to commemorate him on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year. To prevent the fish from eating the body of Qu Yuan, they dispersed the fish by rowing dragon-boat. The custom of boat race has been popular in ancient state of Wu, Yue and Chu since then.
